Sherry Murphy
Mike and Sherry Murphy are the proud parents of an honors graduate of The Catholic University of America, and her four younger siblings.
Sherry, a convert to the faith, graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts with a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies. She has worked in the admissions offices at Boston University and Georgetown University; she has also served as Director of Development for their parish school in northern Virginia.
Mike holds a degree in Organ Performance from the Eastman School of Music and has served as music director and organist at parishes in New York, California, Texas, Florida and Virginia. Locally he has been involved in the music programs at the Basilica of St Mary in Alexandria, and St Andrew the Apostle Parish in Clifton, Virginia.
In addition, Mike served for 26 years as a US Naval Officer, combat aviator, and test pilot. Over the course of his career he held a variety of leadership and management roles, including direction of the flight test program for the F-35 fighter. As a program manager for Information Systems and enterprise business systems, he was responsible for the development, delivery and sustainment of human resources IT systems used by over one million Navy and affiliated personnel. In 2005 Mike was a Secretary of Defense Corporate Fellow at the Hewlett Packard Company. He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in engineering from the University of Rochester and the University of Tennessee. Mike is a defense industry consultant with Cypress International in Alexandria, Virginia.
The Murphys share a deep passion for the Catholic liturgy and the historic role of the arts in Christian life. They reside in Clifton, Virginia with their three youngest children.
