Neely Shah, Catholic '24, is a Vocal Performance major from Macon, GA. She shares why she chose to attend Catholic University, and what advice she has for prospective students.

Why did you choose to attend Catholic University and the Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art?

"I chose Catholic University because of the solid Catholic education and community. I wanted a school where I could flourish in my faith and be around a diverse group of people in a great city. Catholic also has such a beautiful campus that provides some green relief from the urban environment of D.C., all while being accessible to the opportunities the city provides.

I chose the Rome School because I could receive a high level education and training in music and be set for a great career in the arts. The faculty at the Rome School are top notch, and my growth has been insurmountable since my freshman year."

Why did you choose to study music, drama, and art?

"I chose to study music because it truly lifts the soul and heart. There is nothing like the rush of being onstage and singing with my whole body, as well as glorifying God with my voice. Music touches people in a way nothing else in our world does, and it connects the deepest parts of the human experience with the highest ideals. Being a part of that is incredible for me, and it’s truly my calling."

What's been your favorite part of being a student at Catholic University?

"I have loved all the faith resources here and the countless opportunities and variety of ways for me to grow my faith."

What advice would you give to prospective students?

"I would take this opportunity to really grow in independence physically, mentally, and emotionally, and soak up every opportunity that comes your way. Talk to people, meet everyone and enjoy the community! Work hard, but also REST because life in the arts is certainly rigorous. More than anything, just enjoy the ride and period of growth!"
