MFA Playwriting Alumna Kelly Renee Armstrong has been selected to the Core Apprenticeship program at Playwrights Center of Minneapolis. The Core Apprentice program at the Playwrights’ Center is a competitive program which "pairs student playwrights or recent graduates with professional mentors and offers full play development workshops at the Center." Ms. Armstrong holds two M.F.A. degrees from Catholic U: Acting and Playwriting. She graduated this past Spring of 2020 with her M.F.A. in Playwriting.
Ms Armstrong's plays "explore the existing desert in the land of milk and honey, love, equity, and a yearning to be whole through the lens of the African American experience." Her plays have had readings at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Rapid Lemon Productions. She was a participant in the third cohort of Arena Stage's Playwrights Arena and is a member of Actor's Arena. Her play: The Ties That Bind was our final in-person play last season. Ms. Armstrong is the first student of Playwriting professor Jon Klein to be selected for this prestigious apprenticeship. We are so proud of the work Ms. Armstrong has put forth in our program, and we can't wait to see what the future has in store as she begins her apprenticeship.
